To me, this band is so frustrating, but for a reason other than what their music sounds like. I used to work as a labeler at a post-production/mass dupication facility in Burbank and one of our clients was Reprise Records. For a couple weeks we got various orders for Secret Machines's "Road Leads Where It's Led"...and like 90% of the time we had to redo the labels.
You see, what happens is the client calls one of the schedulers who takes the order and types out the information. Then a copy of the order is sent to the dub room and the other is sent to shipping/labelling for the labels to be typed. A lot of the time the scheduler would type down the wrong song title with added words and/or spelling mistakes like "The Road Leads to Where it is Lead" which is just one of many variations. Then there was the question of "is it THE Secret Machines or just Secret Machines?"... I looked up their website (thesecretmachines.com) and on their album it says their name is "Secret Machines" but in various articles they're referred to as "The Secret Machines" and they even have the initials TSM in a few places on their site...that and their website is thesecretmachines.com! So I posted a printout of a tracklist from their website and a printout from amazon.com with the album's tracklisting above one of the computers in shipping/labeling...still people would get it wrong, print out all the labels for the order(s), only to be redone later on that evening...because if we send out a product with the wrong info then it just might get sent back and then we'd have to de-label and redo which was a pain in the ass.
Then again on the whole "Road" issue...they have an EP called "The Road Leads Where It's Led" which of course features the song "Road Leads Where It's Led"...I wish this band would just make up their minds on their 'THE's and stick with one or the other.
hehe.. actually.. I was also wondering about the "THE"'s while typing the entry this moring, but I gave up. The chances are slim that one of their fans will leave me nasty comments just because of the -THE- issue since Doug has never heard of them. =)

No! The confusion is what makes them great! (I've never heard of them...)
