Scott, Tritia and I have a ritual where, every Sunday, we go to Best Buy and/or Circuit City. Every time we go we end up hearing something by Keane. It's really funny!

Doug's not kidding at all. First time I ever saw a Keane video was at Circuit City as I no longer watch music video channels. I'm primarily a heavy metal guy, but I also like different kinds of music as there's so much material and art out there, it would be ridiculous to say you will exclusively listen to only one type of music. Since a lot of people know I like the metal (I'm listening to Cradle of Filth as I'm typing this...at work!), people are often surprised that I like bands like Keane. There's something so brilliant about the combination of instruments just being vocals, keys, drums...all with a bit of electronics in the background which aren't at all overpowering. When I first heard Keane I thought "they must be British as no American band would have the balls to pull off a setup like this...and if they did, it wouldn't sound good." The British (and Europeans in general), in my opinion, are just so much better at the whole 'entertainment' thing than Americans. We're too focused on following a formula or latching on to a trend while everyone else in the world is coming up with new and innovative material. But I digress...getting back to Keane. In closing, I will say that the lack of guitar kind of reminded me of how The Doors were sans the bass...am I comparing Keane to the ALMIGHTY DOORS??? Yes and no. But yeah, I feel this band is really going to continue to excel in the future.
